1. What does music mean to you?

Matej Kačaljak: Tough question to begin with. 😀 I find it a very sophisticated form of communication. Good music (whatever that means), I believe, has the ability to transmit the feelings of author and/or performer to the audience.

2. Name 5 albums that changed your life/the way you see music.

M.K.:  The Horrors – Primary Colors; The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Hearths Club Band; The Doors – The Doors; The Strokes – Is This It; Paul Simon – Graceland

3. What’s your best memory as a band?

I think that the period between June and August of 2009. We were just getting „famous” in Slovakia, got to play on all the major festivals, we were just enjoying live gigs and nothing else mattered. The energy of that period was just amazing.

4. How would the perfect gig start, in your opinion? (Be free to add heavy decibels ori lightnings in insane combinations.)

M.K.: For me it would be in a tiny club at the end of the world (or a stadium 😀 ), totally packed with the most hardcore fans. You could feel the energy flowing from the audience long before You start the gig. Then we would struck the first note and total mayhem would erupt, which would not stop till the gig is over. This is, I believe, the most essential part of a perfect gig.

5. Music vs. Internet.

M.K.: Internet is great for music. We wouldn’t be playing in Romania in the first place if the internet didn’t exist. On the other hand, the consumers all over the world are yet to realize, that by copying music and supporting internet piracy, they are not ruining big companies, but mostly tiny labels and independent artists who have to take loans just to make a decent sounding recording. This attitude will have to change in the near future.

6. If The Swan Bride were an extreme sport, what would it be?

M.K.: Good one! Bungee jumping. When you dare to take the first step, You have no other choice than to last till the end and hope You won’t throw up.

7. 5 bands you like from Slovakia?

M.K.: The Ills, Le Payaco (1st Album), Puding Pani Elvisovej, Andrej Šeban, Prúdy (and successors Fermata, Collegium Musicum, Marian Varga)

8. How would you describe the oppening concerts for Foals and Marylin Manson?

M.K.: As a challenge. Apart from the music, which I enjoyed much more with Foals, it was a glimpse of how a proper gig should be managed. Especially the Foals are real, hard working professionals. It gave us a lot of motivation to work hard, because being a best live act in Slovakia is not a real challenge. Most of the popular acts would not be allowed to play in New York subway stations. 😀

9. How is the independent music scene in Slovakia?

M.K.: It is OK. Most of the bands are copying the major alternative trends in the UK or US with a delay of 4-5 years, but an interesting album comes out almost every year. I think it is the same as everywhere else. All the bands either break up in 5 years or sell out and get rich in mainstream.

10. 3 things that come in your mind when you think about Romania.

M.K.: Transylvania, Dracula, Palace of Chauchesku.

Trupa slovacă The Swan Bride va concerta în Gambrinus Pub, joi, 10 martie ora 21:00.
Opening act: Band For Rent
Afterparty: Indiescouts.
